Natalia Pirani Ghilardi-Lopes is a Brazilian scientist with a strong academic background in ecology, biodiversity, environmental education, and citizen science. She holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a PhD in Botany, with emphasis on marine benthic ecology, also from USP.
She is currently an Associate Professor at UFABC, where she develops and coordinates research, outreach, and educational activities focused on citizen science, coastal ecosystems, marine and botanical education, and participatory biodiversity monitoring.
Natalia was one of the instructors in the UFABC course on Pollinator Monitoring and Citizen Science, in which our team participated. Her contribution brought scientific depth, methodological rigor, and a broader understanding of how pollinators, native bees, and plant–pollinator interactions can be observed and studied through citizen science approaches.
Her work is recognized within the academic community and is also distinguished by its ability to connect scientific research, community participation, and environmental conservation. Natalia is a member of the Brazilian Citizen Science Network and contributes to initiatives that bring universities and society closer together in the production and dissemination of knowledge about biodiversity.
