The leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) is the largest sea turtle species in the world and one of the most remarkable marine animals found along the Brazilian coast. Highly migratory, it can travel thousands of kilometers across the ocean and feeds mainly on jellyfish and other gelatinous organisms. Rare nesting records in Pontal do Sul and along the Paraná Coast highlight the importance of monitoring, scientific research and protecting coastal habitats used by this threatened species.
